Your privacy choices
We do not sell your personal information, and never have. Some advertising data is “shared” in the broad sense US state laws use, and you can switch that off here.
The short answer
ProvenBrief has no customer database, no login, and nothing to sell. We do not exchange personal information for money with anyone. What we do is carry advertising served by Google, and when ads are personalised, Google and its ad partners use data about your visit to choose them. Several US state privacy laws define that as a sale or a share even though no money changes hands for your data, so this page treats it as one.
Opting out
- Privacy & cookie settings opens the choices dialogue, where you can turn off personalised advertising for this site. Declining leaves the ads in place; they simply stop being based on you.
- Google's Ads Settings turns off ad personalisation across every Google property at once.
- aboutads.info/choices covers participating third-party vendors industry-wide.
- Most browsers send a Global Privacy Control signal if you enable it. Where a US state law requires it to be honoured, Google's consent platform treats it as an opt-out without you having to do anything else on this site.
None of these require an account, and none of them ask you to identify yourself. We would rather not know who you are.
Your other rights
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to know what personal information a business holds about you, to have it deleted, to have it corrected, and not to be discriminated against for asking. Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you additionally have rights of access, portability, restriction and objection.
For almost every reader, our answer to a request to know or delete is that we hold nothing: our analytics are recorded against pages rather than people, and there is no profile to return. The exceptions are narrow and easy to state:
- If you subscribed to the newsletter, we hold your email address and your subscription events. Unsubscribing is one click in any issue, and we delete the address on request.
- If you emailed us, we hold that correspondence.
To exercise any of these, write to hello@provenbrief.com from the address you want us to act on, and say which right you are exercising. We do not charge for this and we do not require an account. If we ever cannot identify the data as yours we will say so rather than guess.
Authorised agents
If someone is making a request on your behalf, they should send written permission signed by you along with the request. We may still contact you to confirm it.
Children
ProvenBrief covers technology and business and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and we have no mechanism that could ask for it.
